Self Employment Scheme Opening
Posted on 12th May 2020 at 17:14
The self-employed income support scheme is opening on Wednesday, 13 May 2020. As long as your business has been adversely affected as a result of Coronavirus and your self-employment makes up more than 50% of your income, then you should be entitled to the taxable support..
HMRC have stated that accountants cannot make the claims for individuals, and that the claim should be made via the taxpayer’s HM Revenue & Customs ‘Personal Tax Account.’ This means that a personal tax account needs to be set up for you. If you don’t already have an account, please follow the instructions below:
The link to creating a Personal Tax Account is:
https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account
Then follow these steps:
1. Click on the Start Now box
2. Select ‘Create an account’ and click on Continue
3. Click on ‘Create on Government Gateway Account’
4. Click on ‘Continue to your account’ (at the bottom)
5. Click on ‘Create sign in details’ (below the green sign in box)
You have then started to set up your personal tax account. You will need details of your passport or photo driving licence to more easily pass the ID security verification process. The account needs to be set up to enable the Self-Employment claim to be made. If you do not have internet access, then HMRC have provided a helpline on 0800 024 1222 from 8am to 4pm. However, please do expect a substantial wait!
