Mark Gould, Ashmole & Co’s longest serving partner, is celebrating a significant work anniversary this year having been employed by the firm for 25 years.

A lot of changes have taken place during Mark’s time with Ashmole & Co. When he started in 1994 there were just three offices in Carmarthen, Ammanford and Haverfordwest compared to the current 12. Accountancy has also drastically changed from being an almost completely paper system to these days being massively computerised.

Mark, who lives in Swansea with his wife and three children, said, “The years have flown by. I’m pleased to say that some of my clients have been with me since I started all those years ago and I would like to think of them as friends. You have to have a good relationship with your accountant and trust their opinion. There’s nothing worse than hearing that dreaded phrase ‘Somebody in the pub told me’ you can almost guarantee it’s not going to be correct! That’s why we are here, not just to correct your mates down the pub, but to ensure you have the best advice and service when managing your finances for your business.”

When Mark was growing up his father owned a haulage company which he helped with on weekends, but Mark decided from a young age that he didn’t want to go into that line of work and studied accounting and finance. In 1986 he joined the international accountancy firm Deloitte, Haskins & Sells for three years. He then qualified as a Chartered and Certified Accountant.

Mark started in Ashmole & Co’s Ammanford office, he is the only person to have joined Ashmole & Co as a Partner. He then moved to Carmarthen and after that Abergavenny, as a result he has clients across south and west Wales. He also has clients in parts of England due to them moving away but continuing to work with Mark on their accounts.

When asked why Mark decided to pursue a career in accountancy he said, “Some brains are wired towards words and others, like mine, love working with numbers. The UK tax system is the most complex in the world and legislation keeps changing. I enjoy keeping up to date with the latest systems and legislation changes so my clients know they will get the best advice when they come to me.”

Ashmole & Co Chartered and Certified Accountants have been established since 1897 and are one of the largest accountancy and auditing practices in Wales, operating from twelve offices throughout south and west Wales including Swansea, Haverfordwest and Llandovery. The firm combines high quality audit, accounting, and taxation services with business consultancy, financial services and corporate planning. Hence Ashmole & Co ensures that every client has the dedicated, professional support required to maximise their potential.
